The information I give here about the early days of the Course is sprinkled with a few direct observations but comes primarily from many conversations my wife Gayle and I had with Bill Thetford over the years. If there are any inaccuracies, please chalk these up to my faulty memory of… Continue

One of the most quoted lines in the course is the line, “This is a course in cause and not effect.” I think it is also many times misunderstood to mean that the course is not about behavior. Yet the course never says it is not about behavior. It says that we cannot correct error at the level of effect (behavior) and that correction must be made at the level of the mind, but this in no way dismisses or disregards behavior… Continue

Jesus sends us into the world, fulfilling certain functions….We are sent to certain people….If, for example, our work takes us to the inner city…If we teach suffering and neglected children…If we seek to help free those who are oppressed…
Jesus needs us to be his apostles of peace, or teachers of God, because only through us can he complete the saving work he undertook to begin in his own life….He needs our… Continue

It should be clear by now that, while the content of any particular ego-illusion does not matter, it is usually more helpful to correct it in a specific context. Ego-illusions are quite specific, although they frequently change and although the mind is naturally abstract. The mind nevertheless becomes concrete voluntarily as soon as it splits. However, only part of it splits, so only part of it is concrete. The concrete part… Continue

Namaste seems to have many translations. It's most basic definition is “I bow to you.” There are many others, one of which is, “The light in me honors the light in you.”

There is a lot of talk about forgiveness ACIM style, but I'm not too sure what people really mean when they say this. I often hear that we need to forgive with the Holy Spirit. We need to do this, we need to do that. I was even told from someone who actually wrote a book on the principles of ACIM, who admitted to never reading the course once all the way through and said doing the workbook lessons was optional, but instead wrote his book through… Continue

All wrong doing comes from mind. Transform mind and can wrong doing remain?~The Buddha
I've read that the course has nothing to do with behavior. The reasoning given, is that this is a course on Cause(mind) and not effect(behavior). Another reason given, is that since the world is illusion and in Reality nothing has happened, then it really… Continue

There are no beginnings and no endings in God, Whose universe is Himself. Can you exclude yourself from the universe or from God, Who is the universe? ~ACIM
Without you there would be a lack in God, a Heaven incomplete, a Son without a Father. There could be no universe and no reality. ~ACIM

What is Creation? Creation is the sum of all God's Thoughts, in number infinite and everywhere without all limit. Only Love creates and only like Itself.~ACIM Lesson 321
The term, “non-dualism” seems to be pretty popular in today's Western spiritual circles. It seems if one wants to sound more spiritual, all they need to do is to… Continue

Well I woke up early this morning because I went to bed so early last night. So I hop on the computer and start surfing and wind up at one of the ACIM boards, which then lead me to one of the most active topics on the board.
As I read the comments and replies, I started seeing a familiar pattern. The pattern of being right and repeating one's self to make sure that the “other” received the message that the one is right, by replies and rebuttals over what the other… Continue

The other day my cat was sitting on my lap and nudging her head against my hand trying to manipulate it to pet her. As I watched her do her usually ritual when she is feeling in an extremely affectionate mood, I thought about the first time I ever saw her.
It was about 10 years ago, I came home from work one day and started to walk up the walkway to the house, when this little black & white cat ran up to me, plopped down in front of my path and then rolled around as if she were… Continue

I remember a while back I read from someone how Jesus tricks us, by saying at first that all we need is just a little willingness and then later in the text, saying something like we need to give great willingness to the course and then crescendos to the statement, “Infinite patience produces immediate effects.” and how much Jesus asks of us with this statement.
I was just reading someone talking about how they sometimes want instant gratification and get upset and/or disappointed… Continue

I. Rules for Decision
Decisions are continuous. You do not always know when you are making them. But with a little practise with the ones you recognise, a set begins to form which sees you through the rest. It is not wise to let yourself become preoccupied with every step you take. The proper set, adopted consciously each time you wake, will put you well ahead. And if you find resistance strong and dedication weak, you are not ready. Do not fight yourself. But think about the kind of day… Continue

Not too long ago I had a conversation with someone about Gary Renard's (“Arten's) comment in his second book on page 27 about being in the Now. It was a not so subtle critique of Eckhart Tolle. I have also read where people have said that being in the Now is fine, but it is not practicing ACIM.
I have to disagree with Gary aka “Arten” on this. Not because I am trying to defend Tolle, (though I do appreciate his work), but because I think that it is misinformation to say that… Continue

"The curriculum the Course proposes is carefully conceived and is explained, step by step, at both the theoretical and practical levels. It emphasises application rather than theory, and experience rather than theology. It specifically states that a universal theology is impossible, but a universal experience is not only possible but necessary"
This is probably a pretty irrelevant post in the big picture, but since I'm sitting at home bored, I'm going to write it anyway… Continue

Today I am on my 2nd day of lesson 185: I want the Peace of God.
Yesterday, as I was doing my lesson the day seemed to start off on a good note. I was feeling calm and peaceful as I continued to remind myself that I wanted the peace of God. Thinking that I was actually meaning it as I occasionally meditated on this thought throughout the day.
Later on in the afternoon though, a very strong memory/thought came into my mind. I all of a sudden remembered someone that I haven't… Continue
